Moving an app off a hosted builder without losing data

How to take an app built on a hosted or no-code platform and move it onto accounts you own.

Hosted builders are a fast way to get a first version live. As usage grows, the monthly bill grows too, and many owners realise they don't fully control their code, data or domain.

Start with an inventory

List what the app actually uses: the database, file uploads, scheduled jobs, emails, secrets and the domain. Anything missed here becomes an outage later.

Rehearse the data move

Copy the database to the new home, check row counts and spot-check records, then do it again. The live move should be a repeat of something that already worked.

Fix what you find

Migrations often uncover shortcuts, such as permissions checked only in the browser. Fix them during the move, while the code is open.

Switch at a quiet hour, keep a fallback

Move the domain at the quietest time of day and keep the old version untouched for a week. If anything is wrong, switching back takes minutes.
